Lagu-Lagu The Smiths, Inspirasi Joey Barton
Joey Barton mendapat kecaman terkait ulahnya dalam pekan terakhir Premier League kemarin. Melawan Manchester City yang butuh kemenangan untuk menjuarai liga, Barton malah terkena kartu merah setelah menyikut Carlos Tevez. Tidak hanya itu, sebelum berjalan keluar lapangan, ia menendang Sergio Aguero, pencetak gol kemenangan Citizen.
Aksinya tersebut menuai kritik dari pemandu program Match Of The Day di BBC, yakni Alan Shearer (eks penyerang Newcastle United) dan Alan Hansen (mantan bek Liverpool).
Yang menarik, via akun Twitter miliknya (@Joey7Barton), Barton memberi ‘keterangan’ lewat sepenggal potongan lirik The Smiths, “Still Ill”. Isi tweet Barton ialah,
“For there are brighter sides to life and I should know because I seen them, but not very often…”
Setelah itu Barton berdebat dengan pengamat sepakbola dan mantan penyerang timnas Inggris, Gary Lineker, juga via Twitter.
Beberapa saat kemudian, Barton kembali menuliskan tweet dari lagu The Smiths yang lain yaitu “Cemetry Gates”. Berikut isi tweet tersebut,
“There’s always someone, somewhere with a big nose, who knows and who trips you up and laughs when you fall…”
Barton sendiri dikenal sebagai penggemar band yang dikomandoi oleh vokalis Steven Patrick Morrissey, gitaris Johnny Marr, bassis Andy Rourke, dan drummer Mike Joyce. Kapten QPR ini pernah mengungkapkan bahwa ia akan melakukan apa saja agar The Smiths melakukan reuni untuk pertama kali sejak memutuskan bubar pada 1987.
Morrissey sendiri baru saja memuaskan dahaga penggemar Indonesia yang sudah lama menunggu lewat konsernya pada Kamis lalu di Tennis Indoor Senayan.
